There are immersed tunnels, bored tunnels and the tunnels that occur when a football player spreads his legs too far. On Sunday the third of September there may be a unique chance to see tunnel workers making tunnels on other tunnel workers.
It is Rødby Boldklub that has taken the initiative for a football tournament for the tunnel people. The event is sponsored by the BAT cartel, FLC, FBC and Femern A/S.
Five a side
The game is played with five players on the pitch, and a registered team must consist of a maximum of eight players, so there are three reserves to draw on in case someone runs out of breath along the way.
– Football can do something completely unique. It can create a shared narrative and community across employment relationships and nationalities, it can build trust between the parties, and it can create a greater attachment to and pride in the company you work for and thus a better working environment, says Dorthe Sartor from The BAT cartel.
Can lift the social life
The developer, Femern A/S, also emphasizes that the football event can help to improve the employees’ social life outside the construction site:
– We would like to help strengthen the community around the project, and football is something that everyone can participate in, so we hope to see quite a lot of tunnel people on the pitch and in the stands, writes Femern A/S in an email to FemernReport.
Hoping for more active locally
The hope is that the football event will also have a positive effect on local sports and association life:
– Such an event helps to create positive and active content in the tunnel workers’ free time, so that they have something to look forward to. The hope is, of course, that they become active in the local football clubs, such as Rødby Boldklub, and thus become more integrated into the local community with a view to retaining the workforce, says Dorthe Sartor from the BAT cartel.
The deadline for registering a team for the tournament is on Sunday 27 August.
