A new target year for the delayed Fehmarn link is expected to be announced before the end of 2026.

The new timetable is expected to show, among other things, when motorists will be able to start using the tunnel between Lolland and Fehmarn. The link is due to open in two stages, with road traffic beginning first and rail services following later.
The original target was for the entire link to open in 2029, but that timetable has long since slipped. According to the German newspaper, the most recent expectation has been an opening in 2031. The delay is due both to work on the tunnel itself and to the German rail connection.
So far, three of the tunnel’s 89 elements have been immersed in the Fehmarn Belt. The fourth element is being prepared, while the special-purpose vessel IVY was tested in September for handling the first special element.
Sund & Bælt has previously stated that the new timetable will be based on experience from immersing five standard elements and one special element. It remains unclear whether all six will be in place before the timetable is presented.
