Although the Femern Knowledge and Learning Center is temporarily housed in Adapteo’s office hotel on Gl. Badevej in Rødbyhavn, the closure of the office hotel will not affect the educational activities.
This is assured by Anders Overgaard Bjarklev, rector at DTU, who is among the knowledge centre’s partners.
– It is therefore a surprise that our lease has been terminated. But our desire and intention to be part of the development that will take place in Rødbyhavn with the Fehmarn connection remain undiminished. We just have to figure out how to do it when we can’t quite be where we had expected, says Anders Overgaard Bjarklev.
From 31 January 2023, all tenants of office spaces in Adapteo’s office hotel on Gl. Badevej 2E was terminated, as Lolland Municipality’s local plan for the area does not allow an office hotel.
Uses office hotel as base
DTU has sent several teams of students to Rødbyhavn. There are 20-25 students at a time, and the educational institution will continue to do so.
– We have primarily used the office hotel as a base from which tutors for student groups and people who run summer schools can operate. We have recently completed a school course. The next one is within a month or two. Our activities will probably have to be wound down. It may well be that there will be a little more trouble for the employees, but I think we will figure it out, says Anders Overgaard Bjarklev.
Permanent placement is being investigated
It has long been the plan to find a permanent location for the Fehmarn Knowledge and Learning Center. Among other things, it is being investigated whether the nearby Strandholmgård, where there is also an authorized centre, can be used.
– I expect that plan to work. We may have to find out if it can be speeded up so that we don’t have to sit on the beach, says Anders Overgaard Bjarklev.
Great interest in the centre
Overall, however, he is quite satisfied with the Knowledge and Learning Centre’s first time, despite the small bump in the road with the office hotel.
– We are experiencing a great deal of interest from both students and business partners, who are happy that we are coming, so I am very satisfied, says the DTU rector.
The Knowledge and Learning Center is part of Erhvervsfyrtårn Fehmarn, which is anchored in Erhvervshus Sjælland, and whose other partners are Fehmarn Belt Development, DTU, RUC, Zealand, We Build Denmark, Fe, Copenhagen Capacity, Business Lolland-Falster, Technological Institute and Celf and the other vocational schools in Region Zealand.
