She was presented as the profile who would help lift Kim Fournais’ ambitious luxury project on Vejrø into its next phase.

But Susanne Vang Søgård had only 22 days as chief executive of the company behind the resort on the private island north of Lolland.

On 1 April, she took up the position as chief executive of Vejrø ApS. On 22 April, she was out again, according to information in the CVR register. On the same day, Barbara Jóhansdóttir took up the position as the new chief executive.

It was therefore an unusually short period for Susanne Vang Søgård, who came from a position as director of Stammershalle Badehotel on Bornholm.

When the appointment was announced on 26 March, it was otherwise presented as the result of “a lengthy and thorough search”.

The right candidate

“We have been looking for a profile who understands both hospitality, operations and the special nature of creating something on an island. Susanne brings a rare combination of entrepreneurial spirit, calm and quality - and she is a natural match for Vejrø,” Kim Fournais said at the time in the press release.

The task was to bring Vejrø into a new phase with a focus on guest experience, quality and a financially sustainable business.

In a written response, Vejrø Resort confirms the departure.

“Susanne Vang Søgård is no longer part of the day-to-day management at Vejrø, and the organisation has subsequently been adjusted internally,” it says.

At the same time, management responsibility has been passed on.

“Barbara Jóhansdóttir has currently stepped into a central leadership role with responsibility for operations, brand and the continued development of Vejrø in close collaboration with Fournais Group and the rest of the management team. The focus is fully directed towards the guest experience, the development of the destination and the coming season,” Vejrø states.

Kim Fournais is keeping the project afloat

Behind the project is Saxo Bank founder Kim Fournais, who owns the entire company through Fournais Holding. Vejrø ApS operates, among other things, a hotel, restaurant, marina and activities on the island.

Over recent years, Vejrø has been developed as an exclusive island destination with a focus on, among other things, regenerative operations, agriculture and self-sufficiency. In the press release from March, the ambition was described as creating a destination where nature, gastronomy, tranquillity and quality go hand in hand.

But the development has come at a high cost. The latest accounts showed a loss of just under DKK 23 million. It was the fifth consecutive year of large losses, and since 2020 Vejrø has lost around DKK 98 million in total.

In the latest annual report, debt of DKK 38 million was forgiven, and the parent company provided a guarantee for continued operations.

Many changes at the top

The change of chief executive is not the first in the company behind Vejrø. The CVR history shows that Charlotte Winter Cederbye took up the position of chief executive on 1 October 2024. On 1 July 2025, she was replaced by Steen Erik Højgaard, who stepped down on 31 March 2026. The following day, Susanne Vang Søgård took up the role, before Barbara Jóhansdóttir took over on 22 April.

This means that, in less than seven months, Vejrø ApS has had four different people registered in the top chief executive role.
