Things are getting busy at Ib Andresen Industri in Langeskov on Funen. Over the next four years, 180,000 steel frames must be welded for the Fehmarn Tunnel. Ib Andresen Industri has just received the order for the support system that forms part of the basis for constructing and assembling the rebar in the tunnel elements.
– We are extremely proud of the fact that we, as a supplier of steel-based solutions, have to contribute with our skills and services. It is a blue stamp of our approach and commitment to the project. The Fehmarn Belt tunnel is a huge prestige project and will be the longest of its kind in the world, says Bjørn Thorsen, CEO at Ib Andresen Industri.
Brings the whole concept into play
– The order fits our setup very well, and we get the opportunity to bring our entire concept into play – not just processing the steel itself. Among other things, we have added value to the project through dialogue on design optimization and implementation, our coil concept and our production setup. Here we talk about everything from splitting coils, plate processing, and profile rolling to welding. As a company, we also have the financial strength to invest with our business partners. We are investing over a hundred thousand euros in our welding setup so that capacity and capability increase, explains Søren Eriksen, Sales Manager at Ib Andresen Industri.
Three new welding robots
The investment in Ib Andresen Industri’s welding setup means concretely that the company acquires three new welding robots.
– It’s a huge order, where we have to cover approximately 800 meters of welding per day when at peak production. We quickly realized that we couldn’t execute it in our current setup. That is why we are investing in three new welding robots, all of which are equipped with the latest programming software, which ensures a high degree of automation, says Poul S. Thomsen, Head of Supply Chain & Customer Support.
Need to hire more than 30
However, the three new robots cannot handle the new, large order alone. Ib Andresen Industri is thus faced with having to employ more than 30 new people for the task.
