So far, three tunnel elements have been immersed in the Fehmarn Belt, while the fourth has been ready in Rødbyhavn since the beginning of August.
But before Femern A/S can calculate a new overall timetable, three more elements need to be put in place.
The next step is the fourth standard element, which is expected to be immersed in the near future. It will be followed by the first special element and then the fifth standard element.
- The six elements therefore form one complete sequence in terms of demonstrating a “proof of concept”, which we can then use as the basis for calculating an overall timetable, Femern A/S says in a written response to FemernBusiness.
The first immersions have shown that the equipment, method and cooperation work in practice. But the special element introduces new requirements. It has a basement for the tunnel’s technical installations, must be placed deeper in the tunnel trench and requires a different configuration of the special-purpose vessel IVY.
The contractor must then prove that the fifth standard element can be connected successfully to the special element.
- With the immersion of the first special element, a new configuration of IVY will be used, and because of the basement, the element must be placed deeper in the tunnel trench, the company says.
Femern A/S is not yet able to give a precise date for the immersion of the next three elements.
