Fehmarn people also want to live in vacation homes

These days, the department manager of Dancenter Lolland Majbritt Sørensen, invites you inside the summer house rental company’s new offices at Østergade 3 in Rødby.

– We have noted that the tunnel portal will be located some distance inland. Therefore, we think that our new office is perfectly located in relation to the fact that the tourists do not have to drive back to get the key on the day the tunnel is here, says Majbritt Sørensen about the new location.

Planning Act and winter regulations
But the Fehmarn project is already affecting summer house rentals.

Majbritt Sørensen says that Dancenter receives inquiries from Fehmarn companies that want to rent a vacation home for their employees or from the employees themselves. But here, both legislation and the limitations of the houses must be considered.

– There are planning legislation and winter regulations, meaning that not all vacation homes are suitable for this kind of rental. That’s why we go in and advise our homeowners whether it’s a good idea for their house, says Majbritt Sørensen

From 35 to 41 weeks
In 2020, Business Minister Simon Kollerup (S) decided, after a large consultation of the parties, that a private vacation home may be rented out 41 weeks a year. The previous recommendation from the Danish Business Authority was 35 weeks. But there are also other considerations.

The wishes of the owners count
– There are both pros and cons. Here, we think especially about the wishes of the owners. You have to realize that it wears out the house differently if the tenants have to live in the cottage for several weeks or months. A family house is not necessarily suitable for having two craftsmen living for a longer period, where one might use the house more as one’s own, says Majbritt Sørensen:

– The important thing for us is that the renting takes place in dialogue with the owners, she points out.

As it is, approximately five to ten of Dancenter’s holiday homes are rented out to Femern employees. And it is both white collars and blue collars who choose this solution while working on the project.
