Rambøll Group is appointed as one of four consulting engineering companies that will help plan the upcoming road and rail tunnel under the Fehmarn Sound between Fehmarn and the German mainland.

The 2.2-kilometre-long tunnel is scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2026. Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB InfraGO AG has now announced the names of a total of 16 companies that will be responsible for planning and executing the project.

Danish, German and Dutch advisors The planning group consists, in addition to Rambøll, of Dutch TEC Tunnel Engineering Consultants and the German companies Böger und Jäckle Gesellschaft Beratender Ingenieure mbH & Co. KG and Arup Deutschland GmbH.

The Germans have long been behind on the part of the railway that will connect the island of Fehmarn with the German mainland, but have long insisted that they would be ready to open in 2029. Now the plan is to be completed in 2032.
