As part of the establishment of the fixed connection under the Fehmarn Belt, Banedanmark is upgrading the railway from Ringsted down towards the future tunnel. The Ringsted-Femern Line is one of the largest construction projects in Denmark’s history, and the railway will be an important part of a completely new and climate-friendly transport corridor between Scandinavia and the rest of Europe.

The first part of the upgrade between Ringsted and Nykøbing Falster is already ready, and last year Banedanmark started the second phase of the project between Nykøbing Falster and the Fehmarnbelt tunnel.

New double track and new station
In connection with the ongoing work, the old track across Lolland will be removed, and a new approximately 30 kilometer long double-track track will be established instead. The new line must have catenary lines for electric trains, and a brand new station is to be established south of Holeby between Maribo and Rødby.

New railway bridge over Guldborgsund
In the spring of 2023 Banedanmark will, among other things, begin work on an expansion of the railway, where a new single-track railway folding bridge over Guldborg Sound will be established. The bridge will be located south of the existing bridge, King Frederik IX’s bridge, where there is currently a single track. In the long term, there will also be a new supplementary railway bridge over Prinsholmvej at Falster.

Presents archaeological finds
On background of the workers on the Ringsted-Femern Railway, Banedanmark is inviting information meetings for curious souls who want to learn more about the construction project. It will also be possible to find out more about some of the archaeological finds that have been found in connection with excavations prior to Banedanmark’s work.

Meetings in Holeby and Toreby
The first information meeting will take place on 25 January 2023 from 17-19 in Holeby Hallen. There will be presentations from Banedanmark and Museum Lolland Falster, among others.

The second information meeting is on 1 February from 17-19 in Toreby Forsamlingsgård. There will be presentations from Banedanmark and the Viking Ship Museum, along with others.

At both information meetings, there will be stands with various operators, where you can have a chat with professionals.
