The state-owned Sund & Bælt, which is behind Femern A/S, would like ideas for future business models for the element factory on the Femern construction site. That is why Sund & Bælt is now inviting interested parties to an idea development workshop.
Discreet summoning
The invitation was discreetly posted on Sund & Bælt’s website on 5 October under the heading “Preservation of the element factory”. And a closer study shows that the state company, which is also behind the Storebælt Connection and the Øresund Connection, apparently already expects the element factory to remain in Rødbyhavn – also after 2029.
EIA study initiated
Sund & Bælt has initiated the environmental impact assessment (EIA), which will form the basis for the political decision to preserve the element factory, writes Sund & Bælt on their website.
Multiple ownerships, organizational and business models can be considered for the tunnel element factory and the shipping port, the invitation states.
Workshop on the 2nd of November
The actual idea development meeting will be held on 2 November 2022 at Sund & Bælt. Those interested can register via sundogbaelt.dk before 24 October.
Requires a new construction law
According to the Construction Act, which is the basis for Fehmarn construction, all facilities – including the element factory – must be taken down when the tunnel is completed. Preservation of the element factory thus requires that a new construction act be adopted.
