In the coming time, Sund & Bælt will carry out a larger data collection. It must form the basis for the new transport model. The model is to be used for traffic forecasts for the existing connections, the upcoming Fehmarnbelt connection and new potential connections. This is what Sund & Bælt writes in a press release.
Long time horizon on fixed connections
The long time horizon for planning fixed connections means that a model is needed that can calculate many years into the future. It is therefore timely care to develop a targeted transport model now. The most recent large data collection is from 2010, and with the upcoming data collection an updated basis for the model and thus the decisions is ensured.
Stronger basis for decision-making
Sund & Bælt’s future transport model will not stand alone. The model must play together with an update of the Ministry of Transport’s Green Mobility model, which is administered by the Road Directorate. Therefore, the collected data is also included in both models, which will be used in different contexts.
Where the Green Mobility model is used for road infrastructure projects without payment, characterized by everyday traffic, Sund & Bælt’s transport model focuses on fixed connections with payment infrastructure and a greater proportion of leisure trips.
Together, the two models must ensure a stronger decision-making basis for future road infrastructure projects in Denmark, which must meet the future mobility and capacity of the Danish road network.
Data collection between June and October
The collection will take place in periods between June and October 2023, first in the form of a pilot data collection and later as a full-scale data collection, so that data covers both holiday traffic and everyday traffic. Data will be collected for both passenger and freight traffic. All data will be included in anonymized form.
