Simon Hansen: Three business projects top my list

Simon Hansen wants to drive development in Guldborgsund Municipality through three major projects and closer dialogue with businesses.

Borgmester i Guldborgsund Kommune, Simon Hansen.

A data centre near Nørre Alslev, a resort in Marielyst and a commercial development area near Ønslev.

These are the three projects that Guldborgsund Mayor Simon Hansen (S) will prioritise for the remainder of the electoral term. All three are intended to create jobs and development, but each faces its own obstacle.

FemernBusiness asks the mayors in the region five standard questions about their priorities for the business community.

What is the biggest challenge facing businesses in your municipality right now?

- Recruiting workers. That is why I am also pleased that our budget agreement places further emphasis on helping companies with international recruitment.

Which business issue will you give the highest priority for the remainder of the electoral term?

- There are three important projects. The data centre in Business Park Falster near Nørre Alslev, the resort in Marielyst and the designated commercial development area near Ønslev. These are three important projects that will create jobs and development in the municipality.

What will you specifically launch or change in the municipality to achieve that?

- We need to continue the close dialogue we already have with the various partners involved in the projects.

What is the biggest obstacle to achieving that?

- With the data centre, the state is currently standing in the way. In Marielyst, the challenge is finding the right match between an investor and those who will operate it, while in Ønslev it is about aligning the landowner’s wishes with those of the investors. But I believe we will succeed with all three.

What should businesses notice if you achieve your goal?

- Businesses should experience close and honest dialogue with the municipality. And we also need to be willing to make demands of each other.

The municipality is often blamed for being too slow – and we certainly are in some cases. But there are also cases where our employees work around the clock to get permits in place on time because companies fail to provide the necessary information when they should. Closer dialogue should hopefully help change that.
