A bit of a mouthful: Had to serve hot dogs for 1,100 in 30 minutes

Even the most seasoned sausage man can get a sweat on his forehead when sausages for 1,100 people have to be passed over the counter in half an hour.

The Fehmarn project does not only provide work within the construction industry. The huge construction project creates threads for many parts of the local community. Also within industries that you might not have imagined.

Take Ebbes udlejning (Ebbes’ rental, ed) in Nykøbing for example. Ebbes udlejning deals with the rental of party equipment such as tents with all equipment such as tables, chairs and crockery, hot dog carts, draft beer systems, toilet carts, fences and crew cars.

Opening party at the element factory
But it’s not just weddings, confirmation and student parties that benefit from being able to rent out party equipment.

Because when 1,100 people had to gather last June for an opening party in connection with the tunnel element factory’s first of three production halls, a call was made to Ebbes udlejning from the developer.

Five hot dog vans in use
Klaus Ebbe, who owns Ebbes udlejning, was asked if he could handle feeding 1,100 people with hot dogs and soft drinks in half an hour.

And you don’t say no to such a task.

– I then had a few sleepless nights, because a lot of people had to be fed sausages in a short time, says Klaus Ebbe.

Five hot dog vans on the job
He himself did not have enough hot dog vans to make it possible. Therefore, he had to collaborate with other sausage trucks, which thus also got Fehmarn-related tasks on their CV.

– It went super well. We had five hot dog carts, each of which had over 200 servings through in half an hour, so it had to go fast. We also had a total of 40 men on the job, says Klaus Ebbe.

Tents and toilets in use
It is not because Ebbes udlejning has made a big deal out of offering itself as a supplier for the Fehmarn project. But when the phone rings and the opportunity present itself, it’s time to act.

Because once you have shown that you can solve a task, and the network in Rødbyhavn starts to refer you to someone when party equipment or something else is needed, then more tasks can come your way.

– We have also held summer parties with tents, toilets, and heating cannons down there several years in a row at Femern A/S’s welcome centre, says Klaus Ebbe.

Hoping for more
In addition, Ebbes udlejning has also rented toilet cabins for a ship on the project.

– It is not because Fehmarn is a huge part of the business. But the opening party was a big task. Of course, we hope for more, says Klaus Ebbe.
