Danish companies will have new tasks when the Fehmarn tunnel’s technical, electrical and mechanical innards will be installed. The Spanish consortium Sice-Cobra won the so-called TEM contract, which has a value of between four and five billion kroner. The consortium will be responsible for the design and execution of the technical solutions in the tunnel under the name Femern System Contractors (FSC).
Wants ideas now
At the Fehmarn Link Business Conference in Rødbyhavn Sports Hall, representatives of FSC were present to network with the business community from Lolland-Falster and the rest of Denmark. Division Manager at Cobra, José Manuel Olivares Villafranca, from the podium, called on the companies to submit ideas for technological solutions in the tunnel.
– We will start the design phase in January 2023. Still, companies are welcome to approach us with ideas for new technologies now. Because one of our goals is to implement the latest technology, which is as environmentally and energy friendly as possible, said José Villafranca.
Installation work will begin in autumn 2024
He also presented a roadmap for the project with the technical installations. From June 2023, FSC will officially be offering the tasks for which help is needed, and these can be both large and small installation tasks. The installation work itself is expected to begin in October/November 2024. The installation work is expected to last until the end of 2028, after which the systems must be tested.
Something to go after
Everything is needed from power supply, lighting, ventilation, fire extinguishing systems, drainage systems, alarm systems, emergency exits, heating, air conditioning, communication, radio, data transmission systems, monitoring, traffic systems, elevators, access systems to cable and automation systems. So there is definitely something to go after for companies that can provide solutions in those areas. Sice-Cobra is mainly responsible for the engineering work itself.
Expects 450 employees
As part of the TEM contract, FSC will be responsible for the operation of the tunnel systems for the first three years of the Fehmarn link lifespan.
Cobra is a global group engaged in engineering, installation and industrial maintenance of infrastructure. The group has over 36,000 employees in approximately 70 countries. With 2,500 employees in more than 30 countries, Sice is a little smaller but stands firm in the field of new technology. During the busiest period from mid-2025 to mid-2028, up to 450 employees are expected to work on the project with the technical innards.
