Femern A/S has sent the construction of a new viewpoint at Rødbyhavn to tender.

There is great interest among the population in following the construction of the world’s longest submerged tunnel, but the current viewing platform at the end of Gamle Badevej is outdated.

Therefore, Arup Arkitekter has designed a new vantage point called “The Arrow”, which is 24 meters high at its highest point, and which will therefore provide a good overview of the construction site.

Prequalification deadline May 5th
The tender takes place as a pre-qualification with an application deadline of 5 May. After this, five applicants are expected to be selected to give a final bid on what the construction will cost.

Morten Kramer Nielsen, communications manager at Femern A/S will not put a figure on what the client expects the construction of the lookout point to cost.

The money is set aside from the existing construction framework of DKK 55.1 billion including reserves (2015 prices) as part of the developer’s overall information obligation.

The tenderer’s services will generally consist of delivering and installing a viewing facility that is shaped like an arrow.

Extends over 217 meters
The “arrow” will take the form of a pointed ramp that extends 217 meters beyond the dammed area and points in the direction of Germany. The 217 meters corresponds to the length of one of the tunnel elements that make up the majority of the tunnel.

The project is located at the end of Gamle Badevej in Rødbyhavn and will be located between the future tunnel portal and the existing viewing platform at Rødbyhavn.

Footbridge, embankment and access path
The project consists of a publicly accessible footbridge located on a part of the bridge and an existing dam, as well as an access path from the existing car park on Gamle Badevej.

The work includes, among other things, the construction of paths on partially existing earth embankments. Path on wooden construction and steel path demarcation supported on poles, cantilevered path/bridge construction, membrane work, earthwork and lighting work.

Financial requirements
There are requirements for social clauses, apprentices and the use of recycled steel.

At the same time, the applicant must be able to demonstrate a solvency ratio of at least 20 percent and an annual turnover of at least DKK 50 million excluding VAT for each of the past three financial years.

In the selection, Femern A/S will, among other things, emphasize documented experience with driving concrete piles over 10 meters in length, construction of bridges or plant structures with working height in aggressive environments and use of 3D layout and digital delivery.

Femern A/S expects to select the winner of the tender first in the summer. Construction will take place in the autumn and over the winter and is expected to be completed in early 2024.
