Pressure gauge halves the casting time for concrete

The doors are closed quietly as a supplier to the Fehmarn project. It is stated in the contracts that you must. But in a Facebook post, German Peri, which supplies formwork and scaffolding for building and construction projects, reveals that their pressure gauge called ISC (InSite Construction) is used at the Fehmarn construction site.

PERI has been selected to supply the moulds that will be used to cast the 79 tunnel elements. In total, the company must deliver 8,700 tonnes of steel material for the 5 production lines, and it is thus the largest single order in Peri’s history. The moulds will be produced in Poland and Italy and delivered from Peri Danmark in Greve.

Hydraulically controlled
Each tunnel element is made up of 9 segments consisting of approx. 3,200 m3 of concrete. The desired cycle time for formwork and formwork removal is achieved solely because the entire Peris formwork system is hydraulically controlled. It ensures that the entire bottom mould, side mould, and inner mould can be positioned automatically and simultaneously with a minimum of manual work.

The system with the pressure gauges has also been used in connection with the casting of the basement under a large, new office building on Europa Plads in Aarhus.

Casting fever
– Rarely have I experienced such a pronounced casting fever, which was expressed at Europaplads in the casting of the basement with the use of our new pressure gauge. The joy is partly due to the fascination of ISC, but probably most of all its importance for Aarsleff’s work with casting the high basement walls, where they can save a lot of time and manpower, says PERI Denmark’s sales engineer René Østergård in a press release.

Frees up labour and improves working conditions
The concrete castings in the basement under the Aarhus square are a special casting up against the sheet piles and for secant piles. For such a task you would normally allocate two people and a good amount of working time, but the data provided by the casting pressure gauge significantly optimizes the workflow in relation to time and number of employees.

– In the case of a casting like this with wall heights of 6.35 metres, 1-2 meters are usually cast per hour, where it will normally take two people approx. 6-8 hours per casting. Now at Europaplads we have seen that with the help of ISC it took one man just 3-4 hours per casting, says René Østergård, who is supplemented by Aarsleff’s production manager Ole Lind-Larsen:

Completely new insight
– It gives a completely new insight that we can constantly follow the pressure and see how the different casting points behave. At the same time, it provides a great improvement in the working conditions for the performers, as they do not have to stand with a stick vibrator. In addition, manpower is freed up, as we could, for example, settle for one person for the casting rather than two.

Experience is gained from project to project
The casting pressure gauge is used as a start-up tool for the first 2-3 castings, after which enough knowledge and data have been collected for the remaining castings. That is why ISC is relevant at the beginning of projects where in-situ concrete must be cast – and especially for special solutions such as the office building at Europaplads. – We used Peri’s casting pressure gauge for the first castings, after which we used the experience from the received data for the remaining castings of the basement. That experience could be used 1:1 because we had to make the same castings. For the next construction project, we will therefore again use ISC at the start for the first castings, which will then set a precedent for the rest, concludes Ole Lind-Larsen.
