The newly appointed minister for business, traffic, tourism and economic affairs in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany has just hired a coordinator for the many building and construction projects that follow from the Fehmarn project.
Better communication
The new coordinator will not be officially named until next week. Transport, Tourism and Business Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen, who is not a member of any party, tells FemernReport that the new coordinator, who will also receive administrative assistance, will mainly deal with communication:
– It is clear that the many constructions works on roads, railways and so on cause some problems for traffic. There has been much contention that citizens and businesses were not informed well enough. The irritation it causes can be solved by providing better information about what is happening, says Claus Ruhe Madsen.
Municipalities and companies must pay
Although the new coordinator is formally employed by the state of Schleswig-Holstein, the German companies and municipalities will help pay for the effort:
– We will collect a small amount from mayors and businesses. It’s not because we don’t have the money to pay ourselves, but it’s the experience that if you have to pay for something, you also take it more seriously, says Claus Ruhe Madsen.
Software for coordination
In addition to the communication efforts, the new coordinator function also provides software to ensure better internal coordination between the many infrastructure projects.
