Updated 15-02-2023, 11:18. Køge Municipality is also a member of Femern Belt Development, but was not on the original list.
Roskilde Municipality now joins the membership of the Fehmarn Belt Development fund. A unanimous business committee decided this at a meeting on 10 February.
Fehmarn moved closer
– The time was ripe. We have had a good dialogue and a good collaboration with Fehmarn Belt Development for many years, but we probably felt in Roskilde that the Fehmarn Belt was far away – both physically and mentally. But now it seems that it has moved closer. Not least because the economy has turned, and the companies in Roskilde have also started to look further afield for tasks, says Lars Lindskov (K), chairman of the business committee in Roskilde Municipality.
Ten municipalities with
With the registration in Fehmarn Belt Development, Roskilde Municipality is now entering the work to get as much Danish growth as possible from the Fehmarn project. There were already nine municipalities in the foundation’s membership. Each municipality contributes a membership fee, which is determined based on how far the municipality is from Rødbyhavn and how large a direct effect the municipality is assessed by a few of the Fehmarn projects. In Roskilde’s case, it ends up with an annual printout of almost 36,000 euros.
A contribution to the community
What do you expect to get for the money?
– You cannot establish a cost/benefit of joining a community. It is our contribution to the community. We do not expect it to give a return krone for krone like, for example, a tourism project. But we will be happy if one day we can say that ‘now we have got a lot of companies that have got something out of Fehmarn,’ says Lars Lindskov.
The more the better
Stig Rømer Winther, der er direktør for Femern Belt Development, er glad for, at Roskilde nu kan tælles blandt medlemmerne:
– I am really very happy that Roskilde is stepping in now. The more municipalities that are part of the community, the stronger we are. We try to bring the municipalities together in work for growth and business projects. We have a harbor tunnel in Copenhagen, the Kattegat connection, and energy islands in the pipeline that can really benefit from a permanent establishment of the element factory in Rødbyhavn. We are in dialogue with many municipalities and companies, and it is a big pat on the back to get Roskilde on board, says Stig Rømer Winther.
