The Nordic Council calls for better coordination of efforts to create sustainable transport solutions at sea, on land and in the air. These include the electrification of ports and shipping, electrification of aviation, sustainable freight transport and a Nordic plan for high-speed trains. That’s what Transeuropa Magasinet writes.
Positive signals
There has been a positive development during the Norwegian presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2022. Norway stated in its presidency program the desire to strengthen cooperation on transport. Now the Norwegian Minister of Transport is putting forward a concrete proposal.
– There is good interaction between our ministries in the Nordics, and we meet regularly. I also have experience collaborating with my Nordic colleagues, formally and informally. When it comes to the issue of a ministerial council for transport, Norway is prepared to go a step further and establish a permanent ministerial council for transport. Still, there is no full agreement between the countries on this. We will discuss that when we meet in Fredrikstad next week, says Jon-Ivar Nygård, who is Norway’s transport minister, to Transeuropa Magasinet.
Finland has a wait-and-see attitude, and Sweden has not yet announced what they think about formalized cooperation.
