– Of course, you cannot do this kind of construction without accidents. And I don’t agree with their (FBC’s, ed.) statistics, says Bjarne Jensen, who is deputy chairman of 3F’s construction group in Lolland.

3F Lolland seeks access to documents from the Danish Working Environment Authority every month in order to get an overview of the reported occupational accidents and any orders in connection with the Femernbyggeriet. And that gives the deputy chairman the opportunity to break the harmony for FBC:

Four accidents at subcontractors
– We have registered four occupational accidents at subcontractors for FBC during 2022, and this is only among our members. After all, FBC does not have any hourly paid employees – but the large subcontractors do. MSE alone has up to 350 employees and Holbøll, for example, has 120, and they are not included in the statistics, says Bjarne Jensen.

For reasons of confidentiality, 3F does not wish to disclose which subcontractors are involved. Bjarne Jensen also does not want to go into what kind of accidents are involved. But he tells FemernReport that there are some serious ones in between.

Foreign employees not organized
The 3F vice-chairman acknowledges that four work accidents in one year is not much for a construction site of the scope of the Fehmarn project, but he points out that there may be hidden figures, as the union does not have the opportunity to verify FBC’s information:

– After all, it’s only those we get in. We don’t get access to talk to people out on the barges at all, and it’s a huge project after all. But it is all foreign labor and they are not organized. But I do not agree with these figures, and I told them (FBC, ed.) that at the meeting on Wednesday, where they presented this, says Bjarne Jensen.

Fine cooperation
However, he believes that occupational safety on the Fehmarn project is generally in order:

– Immediately it seems okay. We have a fine collaboration, and it takes place in a good spirit, says the 3F vice-chairman.
