The exclusive island of Vejrø in the Småland Sea aims to conquer the German market. While operations continue to incur significant losses, Vejrø ApS is now seeking a German-speaking sales profile to make the private island known among wealthy German guests and companies.
Vejrø is owned by Saxo Bank founder Kim Fournais, who has invested heavily in the project. The island is marketed as a sustainable paradise where luxury, nature, and self-sufficiency meet. Here, agriculture, a restaurant, and a resort are run with a focus on green energy, local food, and exclusive stays.
But behind the luxurious facade lies a heavy operation. In 2024, the company lost nearly 23 million kroner. This marks the fifth consecutive year with losses at the same level. Since 2020, Vejrø has lost a total of 98 million kroner. The operation is kept alive by the owner's support, and in 2024, debt was forgiven for an additional 38 million kroner. The parent company has also guaranteed coverage of future losses until the end of 2026.
Spending more money
Despite the large losses, investments on the island continue. According to the annual report, Vejrø ApS still has ongoing construction projects and new leasing agreements worth over 10 million kroner. The strategy is to build an international profile, making the island an obvious choice for companies and individuals seeking exclusive and sustainable experiences.
As part of the initiative, Vejrø is now seeking a German-speaking Partnership & Sales Lead based in Klampenborg. The position aims to open the door to the North German market, create visibility, and build relationships with German guests and businesses. The new employee will be responsible for developing partnerships within corporate retreats, events, and luxury holidays.
With the German initiative, Vejrø hopes to strengthen its position in one of the most affluent nearby markets. The goal is to attract an audience that values comfort, nature, and sustainability and can help elevate the island's business in the long term.
