New trade figures for 2025 show that trade between Denmark and Germany is once again moving in a positive direction after a more subdued 2024.
Figures from the German Statistisches Bundesamt indicate that trade flows between the two countries have grown in 2025. German exports to Denmark increased by 6.7% to reach 24.0 billion euros. Denmark thus ranks 16th among Germany's export markets globally.
Imports the other way also grew. German imports from Denmark increased by 3.3% to 15.2 billion euros, placing Denmark as number 22 among Germany's import countries.
China and the USA at the top
Overall, exports and imports between Denmark and Germany grew by 5.4%. The figures thus point to a stable and positive development in the trade relationship. The upcoming quarterly figures will show whether the growth can be maintained and how trade is affected by the general economic development in the EU and in global markets.
At the same time, the figures show that Germany's trade is still largely supported by the very large markets, where the USA and China are at the top and alternate as the largest trading partner depending on the period. This underlines that the development in German exports and imports is also affected by fluctuations in the world economy, and that changes in demand from the major economies can impact trade in Europe, including trade with Denmark.
