The Regional Council of Region Zealand is launching the process toward a new raw materials plan. The first step involves inviting ideas and suggestions from citizens, authorities, and operators to provide input.
How can resources such as sand, gravel, and stone be used responsibly? Where should the next raw material extraction sites be located in the region? Over the next eight weeks, these questions and more are open for input from citizens, authorities, and other stakeholders during the consultation process. The region encourages everyone to submit ideas and proposals for Raw Materials Plan 2026.
As part of the consultation, the Regional Council has published a discussion paper highlighting several key issues for public debate. The paper focuses on topics such as resource scarcity, the need for increased recycling, and the challenges raw material extraction poses to local communities and the environment. The aim is to foster a broad dialogue about future needs and solutions to these challenges.
“The field of raw materials is complex and full of major challenges. Our resources are limited, and recycling must be increased to ensure sustainable supply. At the same time, raw material extraction is getting closer to residential areas, making it crucial to collectively find solutions that meet society’s needs while considering the environment and those living near raw material sites,” says Bruno Jerup, Chair of the Committee for Green Transition, Sustainability, and Environment.
The deadline for submitting proposals is January 31, 2025.
