During the three years they have existed, Femern A/S’ visitor centers in Rødbyhavn on Lolland and in Burg on Femern have set visitor records every year. So also in 2023, when 42,663 curious people made their way past the visitor center in Rødbyhavn and 7,823 found their way to the center on the German side of the belt. This is shown by the latest statement from Femern A/S.
Those figures bring the Fehmarn project all the way up into the top league among tourist attractions on Lolland-Falster. In fact, only Knuthenborg Safaripark, the Dodekalitten, Lalandia’s Aquadome and Guldborgsund Zoo and Botanical Garden can boast more visitors.
Meeting and business tourism as well as group travel
The tourism organization Visit Lolland-Falster has noticed that a new tourist attraction has arrived in the area:
– It is clear that the Fehmarn Tunnel in the long run will have a positive impact on tourism in Lolland-Falster. But already now, before the tunnel is finished, we are seeing a big effect. It is mainly meeting and business tourism and group travel that come to see the project, says Lindy Kjøller, destination manager at Visit Lolland-Falster.
Makes the experience bigger
Precisely the two groups of tourists are particularly valuable because they also visit the area outside the high season in the summer. But summer tourists also enjoy being close to Europe’s largest construction site:
– It makes the experience greater that there is a visitor center that you can also visit during the summer holidays, says Lindy Kjøller.
Tunnel construction occupies people
At the builder, Femern A/S, they are also happy about the large number of visitors:
– We are happy about the growing interest in the construction of the Fehmarn Belt tunnel. Our guides in Rødbyhavn and Burg undoubtedly play a big role in making the exhibitions an experience. They meet many Danish and German guests from regions other than the immediate local area, and this emphasizes that this tunnel construction attracts people regardless of where they come from, says Morten Kramer Nielsen, head of communications at Femern A/S.
Guest number 100,000
During 2023, the visitor centers could also mark another milestone. Guest number 100,000 was recorded in the autumn, when a family from Hamburg visited Rødbyhavn.
What remains is the question of when enterprising people will open their eyes to the fact that there can be business in parking a food truck – possibly with draft beer serving – near Havnegade 2. The idea is hereby passed on.
