The construction project of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel is causing ripples in the water in many places in the local community on Lolland. And it’s not just in the construction and construction industry.

Also, at the wine shop 2010 Vin & Velsmag in Maribo, owner Michael Gullits feels the proximity to the largest construction project in Danish history.

– The Fehmarn project also rubs off on us a bit and provides some extra sales. There are many local companies and employees on the Fehmarn Belt construction, which means that there will be more growth in our area, and therefore it will spread to one extent or another, says Michael Gullits.

Gifts and networking meetings
He is a trained sommelier and imports wine himself to Maribo, where he has a large warehouse in addition to the 400 square meter wine shop.

2010 Vin & Velsmag supply gift baskets and wine for reception gifts to both Fehmarn consortia and subcontractors.

In addition, suppliers to the Fehmarn construction site use the wine shop to hold network meetings with subsequent wine tasting.

– We have quite a few of those events, says Michael Gullits.

Wants pleasant surroundings
There are also companies that hold a supplier day in the wine shop’s premises, where the company presents some new products that can be used on the Fehmarn construction site.

– Then they choose us because we have Denmark’s most beautiful wine shop. They want to be in cozy surroundings that are a little down to earth. And that is what we can deliver, says Michael Gullits.

However, he finds it difficult to put a figure on how much turnover has increased as a result of the Fehmarn effect.

– It is difficult to say because some of the sub-suppliers are local, who traded here before, and for the last two or three years, we have also been affected by corona, so the figures are very uncertain. But we can feel how things are flourishing down there in Rødbyhavn and that customers from the Fehmarn Belt construction come and shop with us. On the whole, more people have come to our part of the country, and this affects turnover, explains Michael Gullits.

Quality ranks highest
2010 Vin & Velsmag has a collaboration with more than 50 wineries and the families behind them, which Michael Gullits regularly visits to check that the quality of the wines is in order.

And if there is a particular characteristic of which wine the Fehmarn people prefer, then it is also predominantly that it must be of good quality.

– They want good quality. They don’t go for the cheapest. It is the most characteristic. And then it can also be specialty beer. It is quite popular, says Michael Gullits.

He has been part of the supplier network FB Suppliers from the beginning and is happy with the contacts the network provides.

– We get some good connections at those meetings. The good thing about the network meetings is that you talk about your company and what you can offer to others in the network so that they can recommend your company. So it’s about using each other and talking well about each other, says Michael Gullits.
