The Fehmarn Tunnel will not be opened until – according to plan – in 2029. But work is already starting to make the many business opportunities in the region between the metropolises of Copenhagen/Malmø and Hamburg visible to international investors.
Part of Fehmarn Lighthouse
The initiative is part of the Danish Fehmarn Lighthouse project. From the Danish side, it is Erhvervshus Sjælland, Femern Belt Development and Business Lolland-Falster that are behind it. On the German side, the business development companies Entwicklungsgesellschaft Ostholstein, Wirtschaftförderung Lübeck, Wirtschafts- und Aufbaugesellschaft Stormarn, Wirtschaftsgesellschaft Lauenburg and Wirtschaftsentwicklung für den Kreis Segeberg are in charge of the project.
Business lots and high-tech
– I see great perspectives in the cooperation with our German partners. Together, we stand strong in the efforts to create development in the Fehmarnbelt region, when we put our different strengths in the same basket. From the Danish side, we can offer lots of attractive commercial areas along the motorway, and on the German side, not least, the presence of many high-tech companies is of great value for creating an attractive international business environment across the Fehmarn Belt, says director of Fehmarn Belt Development, Stig Rømer Winther, in a press release.
Hansebelt continues after the border
Expectations for future cooperation are no less on the German side of the Fehmarn Belt:
– We see many advantages in collaborating with our Danish friends on joint international marketing. The Hansebelt Region on the German side will no longer end at the border, and on both sides of the Fehmarnbelt, joint marketing can be advantageously collaborated to attract international companies. I have no doubt that there is potential for business development along the axis Hamburg-Copenhagen/Malmø in the Hanseatic Region and in the Danish part of the Fehmarn Belt Region, and that an intensified and close Danish-German cooperation can unlock the potential, says director Ulf Hahn from Wirtschafts- und Aufbaugesellschaft Stormarn.
Analysis is underway
The Danish-German collaboration on joint marketing of the Fehmarn Belt Region’s business opportunities is already underway. Work is currently underway to analyze potentials and barriers for investment and establishment on the Danish and German sides of the Fehmarn Belt, respectively. The analysis must form the basis for the marketing work that is now being started.
Joint booth at investor fair
As part of the joint marketing, the Danish and German partners participate in the international investor fair EXPO REAL, which this year takes place in Munich 4-6. October. At a joint stand with the Schleswig-Holstein region, the focus is on the municipal commercial areas and on the many tourism projects that are under development.
