New figures from Statistics Denmark show that 2,834 companies went bankrupt in 2022. That number is the highest since 2010.

According to senior economist at Dansk Erhverv Kristian Skriver, 2023 is not looking better.

Continues in 2023
He expects the bankruptcies to continue in 2023. High inflation, sharply rising interest rates and weak prospects for growth will mean that we are looking into a year where more companies will have to close.

Fehmarn subcontractors in the danger zone
It will also affect several subcontractors for the Fehmarn Belt, Kristian Skriver believes.

– There are some of these companies, which are both suppliers to the construction industry and the building industry, which are threatened by these sharply rising interest rates. This will put a damper on the activity in general in construction, says the senior economist.

Interest rate shocks will come later this year
According to the senior economist, it will only be later in the year that the higher interest rates will really hit the construction industry.

What kind of future are the subcontractors potentially looking into?

Demand is falling
– They are looking at a situation where demand falls when interest rates have risen so sharply, and this will put a damper on the entire housing market. There will not be as many who go out and build a new house or build larger buildings.

Do you also think that it will affect the subcontractors who are part of the Fehmarn Belt project?

– yes, that is my assessment.
