When 16 geography students from Roskilde University visit Rødbyhavn from 28 to 30 November, it will be about, among other things, how the Fehmarn construction affects the local area.
The visit to Rødbyhavn will be the end of a long-term course, where in recent months, the students have received instruction in various fieldwork methods that can be used to investigate places, their character, and development potential.
Need to try methods in real life
With the visit to Rødbyhavn, the students must try out the methods in reality in collaboration with local actors. The visit ends with a presentation where the students present their findings to an audience on the last day, Wednesday, 30 November.
The methods that the students have received training in and will test in Rødbyhavn range widely from, for example, interviews with locals, traffic counting of vehicles, and mapping of the local business community.
Many workers to the city
Tourism Vs. Corridor
In another case, the students must look at how the area can avoid becoming a traffic corridor in the future by looking at the tourism perspectives in connection with the construction of the Fehmarn Belt.
Other cases are about the containment of land for establishing Rødbyhavn and how Rødby’s pedestrian street can potentially be revitalized in light of falling population numbers and internet shopping.
All interested invited
The various cases are based on current issues in and around the city, so it is also important for the local players in the area. Therefore, the students invite everyone interested in the area to their final seminar, where they present their fieldwork findings. The event will take place in Rødbyhavn on Wednesday, 30 November, from 1 pm to 3 pm. The students will start at the Fehmarn Knowledge and Learning Centre, where it is also expected that the presentation on Wednesday will take place.
