The Fehmarnbelt region’s biggest international friendly soccer tournament is just around the corner. From 6 to 9 July, things get going in this year’s host city, Nykøbing Falster. Now the participant list and pool division is ready. On Tuesday, a press conference was held at DBU Lolland-Falster. Both the soccer association and the main sponsor, Fehmarn Belt Development, have high hopes:
– The Danes have won it twice, the Germans also twice, and of course we also hope that a Danish club wins this year, says Stig Rømer Winther, director of Femern Belt Development.
Participation from Superliga club
The friendly tournament has some strong national names this year. Among other things, the upcoming Danish Superliga club and last year’s winner, Hvidovre IF, who will try to defend the title.
In the same group is Nykøbing FC, who will compete with the Copenhageners and SV Eichede and VfB Lübeck, which is the German team in the highest tier, namely the Regionalliga Nord, which corresponds approximately to the 3rd division in Denmark.
In the second group, it is HB Køge and Næstved from the 1st division as well as FC Phönix Lübeck, who play in the Regionalliga Nordöst, and SV Todesfelde, who play in the local league, Oberliga Schleswig-Holstein.
Best soccer setup to date
– It is the best soccer setup we have had. We think it is fantastic that we have once again been able to continue the collaboration with the German Soccer Association.
– Of course, it started as business development, and a sea of sponsors and German connections are coming to the city. And what better time to talk to them than when you have good soccer in front of you, says Thomas Bonde Jensen, head of administration at DBU Lolland-Falster.
– The tournament will be free to watch for everyone, he also emphasizes.
Accomodated locally
Accommodation for the approximately 120 guests from Germany has also been arranged locally.
– We have made sure that everyone has a place to live during the time they are here. It is with the help of Femern Belt Development and our employee Simone Mathiasen, who have worked hard to get the logistics up and running, says Thomas Bonde.
Danish-German business conference
In connection with the Belt Cup, a Danish-German business conference will also be held in Nykøbing F. Hallen under the heading “Opportunities in the Fehmarn project now and in the future”. Here, among other things, the FLC consortium’s purchasing manager, Mathias Mundt, will talk about how local companies can assert themselves as subcontractors for the project. The technical director of Femern A/S will give an update on the work, and “the new boy in the class”, Fehmarn Systems Contractors, will talk about the technical installations in the tunnel and what they need to subcontract.
