Saunagus and holiday cottages are also for Fehmarn people

When a large construction project such as the Femern project is located so close to a holiday center such as Lalandia in Rødbyhavn, it has a positive effect on turnover.

The target group for the holiday centre Lalandia in Rødbyhavn is primarily families with children. But the many employees on the large construction project to build the Fehmarn connection also add to the coffers at the holiday centre.

– We have 40 holiday homes, which are constantly rented out to Fehmarn people, where they change between the homes, because they are only allowed to live in each house for a maximum of half a year at a time. Then some of their colleagues come and visit our restaurants and eat ice cream once in a while. So we definitely feel the proximity to the Fehmarn project, says Karsten Juhl, centre director of Lalandia in Rødbyhavn.

The consortia FLC and FBC are the long-term tenants of the homes for their employees. But Lalandia also has space for Femern employees on shorter stays.

– We would very much like to have someone in who only lives here for two or three days because then we can manage it better in relation to the families with children, says Karsten Juhl.

Will protect the core product
Lalandia in Rødbyhavn has 750 holiday homes, and when there are no more than 40 that are rented out more or less permanently to Fehmarn people, it is because there must be enough holiday homes for holiday-hungry families with children.

– We may be able to take five more homes into use for Fehmarn rental, but then we don’t need more either. Someone might be tempted to start turning all rentals over in the direction of Fehmarn, but we don’t do that. The Fehmarn construction will also stop at some point, and families with children are still our core product, says Karsten Juhl.

At Lalandia’s restaurants, cafés and ice cream kiosks, they, therefore, feel increased turnover. But do the Fehmarn employees use the water park in the Aquadome?

– Yes, they also use the water park, and then they might try the sauna gas and loosen up the muscles, says Karsten Juhl.

Expects turnover with new homes
Lalandia has also leased a 45,000 square meter area where Adapteo is building 500 modular homes for Fehmarn people.

The Lalandia director also has high hopes for that project.

– We clearly expect that this will generate additional revenue. When the Øresund connection was built, it created a boom in the experience economy in Malmö, and it would be strange if there wasn’t a boom in Rødbyhavn, both with us and with others in connection with the Fehmarn project, says Karsten Juhl.

Lalandia is currently preparing for the busy summer season, hiring approximately 140 new employees, and Karsten Juhl reports interest from travelling spouses and partners of people who work or will work on the Fehmarn Belt link.

– We held a job day on 29 January, where approximately 200 people turned up, and right now we are holding interviews, so I think it looks positive, concludes Karsten Juhl.
