There was broad agreement on Nykøbing when the Regional Council in Region Zealand on Tuesday decided where the upcoming express train to Hamburg should stop.
The challenge in yesterday's decision was to choose between Ringsted and Næstved as the second stop. But a clear majority recommended Ringsted.
This is reported by TV2 East.
Thus, Næstved lost the battle, which among others surprises DF's Githa Nelander, who sits on the city council in Næstved.
Using gut feeling
- We have spent 500,000 kroner on a report that clearly points to Næstved. Instead, they choose to use their gut feeling. I simply cannot understand that.
Roskilde politician Lars Lindskov (M) was also puzzled.
- The critical mass in terms of business, population, and educational institutions speaks for Næstved, he stated.
But the majority chose Ringsted, which according to Venstre's Flemming Damgaard Larsen is an obvious traffic hub.
- If you come from Roskilde or Slagelse, you only need to change once when going to Hamburg, he explained.
Venstre's own Kirsten Devantier from Næstved, however, voted against her group and pointed to her hometown - as did the Social Democrat Susanne Lundvald.
The decision was 27-9 in favour of the combination of Ringsted and Nykøbing Falster, while one abstained from voting.
The region's decision is only a recommendation. It will be the state authorities who ultimately decide where the express train to Hamburg will actually stop.
