By May, Rødby’s population will have grown by over 50 percent. In addition to the approximately 2,000 permanent residents, there will be an additional 1,344. They are all employed at the Fehmarnproject, and they will be accommodated in modular buildings inside the construction site itself.

The 30,000 square meter ‘artisan village’, FLC Village, in Rødbyhavn is being built by Adapteo. In order to reach the goal of more than 1,000 modules, the pavilion supplier must build four modules a day until the end of April this year. The first were already ready for occupancy in late summer 2021, and the last will be ready in just a few months.

Four modules per day
Since 2021, the pavilion supplier has set up 995 modules, and the last two years of experience have benefited Adapteo.

– In the beginning, it took us a month to complete 24 modules, which together make up a building. Today we assemble four modules a day. So we have to keep the momentum to reach the final stage, says Jens Schmidt, project manager at Adapteo Denmark.

The buildings are 9×3 meters and include a private room for the resident, bathroom with shower and toilet, as well as recreation rooms and outdoor terraces on both floors.

90 percent complete upon arrival
So far, Adapteo has set up 995 modules. This corresponds to a total of 1,184 rooms. This means that there are 121 modules missing, corresponding to 160 rooms, which must be ready in less than two months.

– When the buildings arrive at the construction site, they are about 90% complete and equipped with furniture, linen and bathroom. The project team then assembles the building unit and it is ready for use. The majority of the modules will be used for living, while around 100 of them will be used as common areas where the residents can relax after a long working day in the tunnel, says Jens Schmidt.

Denmark’s largest hotel
The construction workers have continuously had the opportunity to move into FLC Village. At present, around 900 workers live in Adapteo’s flexible construction.

– At the end of week 8, we have installed 37 of the total of 42 buildings to be built. So things are going the right way, and the final sprint is really on, says Jens Schmidt.

Remains until the elements are cast
The plan is for the construction to remain there until the tunnel elements are finished. After that, the modules will slowly be taken down little by little. It is expected that all housing will be removed when the tunnel itself is ready for use, and that the workers will therefore no longer need a place to live nearby.

– It is a very large and important project, and helping to contribute to the largest construction project in Danish history has been a fantastic journey. It is no joke that it will be Denmark’s largest hotel, concludes Jens Schmidt.
