A new power grid for South Zealand, Lolland, and Falster has now been approved as part of the political agreement on the faster expansion of the power grid. The project, which has a budget of 5 billion kroner, aims to ensure that the power grid can keep up with the increasing production of green electricity from solar and wind.
According to the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Utilities, the route will run from Ringsbjerg south of Køge to Eskilstrup on North Falster and Nørre Radsted on Lolland. Construction work is expected to begin in 2028 and be completed in 2033.
Investment is needed now
The project includes, among other things, a new 400 kV connection, where about 30 percent of the route may be buried. Energinet is in dialogue with landowners and municipalities about the precise routing, which will only be determined after public consultations.
Minister Lars Aagaard (M) emphasises that the expansion is necessary to ensure supply security:
- Investment is needed now if we want to ensure security for both consumers and businesses, he says.
The establishment of the new power grid is the last of three so-called acceleration areas decided in the agreement from December 2024. The aim is to make it quicker to expand the infrastructure, which must support the green transition.
