New plan for warships on Lolland

Danish-German consortium wants to convert tunnel factory into shipyard

The central figures behind the plans met last week in Hamburg, where Sund & Bælt's director Mikkel Hemmingsen and COWI director Jens Højgaard Christoffersen visited NVL’s CEO Tim Wagner.

Previously, a lot of effort was put into bringing the construction of Danish warships to Lolland. However, in July, a political majority decided that Frederikshavn should be the centre for the navy's new shipyard.

A Danish-German consortium consisting of the German ship manufacturer NVL and the Danish engineering company COWI, however, does not give up, writes JP Finans

With COWI as an advisor, they will convert the tunnel factory of the Fehmarn connection in Rødby into a modern shipyard when the tunnel construction is completed. The consortium assesses that the task is so extensive that Frederikshavn cannot handle it alone.

Sund & Bælt, which owns the tunnel factory, states that the interest in reuse is great, but that no decisions have yet been made or agreements entered into.
