The postponed meeting between Denmark and Germany regarding the delayed Fehmarn Belt link is now scheduled for 29 October. Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen (V) and the German Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder are to meet virtually to discuss the progress of the tunnel and railway project.
The meeting was originally supposed to take place on 10 October but was cancelled because the political dialogue between the two countries was not sufficiently clarified. According to Lübecker Nachrichten, the new meeting will be central to ensuring clarity over the timeline.
On the agenda is, among other things, an updated timeline for the tunnel between Lolland and Fehmarn, as well as delays on both the Danish and German sides. The project is already at least a year and a half delayed, and the German part of the railway connection is expected to be completed at the earliest by the end of 2032.
Both Denmark and Germany have previously emphasised that the link is strategically important for transport and business throughout Northern Europe. The meeting is therefore expected to have significant implications for how the project is organised in the coming years.
