Large grid connections put on hold

Lack of capacity in the transmission network delays larger projects and prompts Cerius to press the pause button.

The electricity network company Cerius, which operates the electricity grid on Lolland-Falster and most of Zealand outside the capital area, has put all major grid connections on hold.

The decision comes after Energinet reported a lack of capacity in the transmission network.

According to Cerius, it currently concerns a double-digit number of customers with a total requested capacity of over 100 MW, who have been through the company's system and are now awaiting clarification from Energinet before a final grid connection agreement can be made.

- With Energinet's announcements about the lack of transmission capacity, we have chosen to put all new, large connections on hold until we have the necessary overview from Energinet, states CEO Jens Fossar Madsen.

The projects in question only lack clarification on whether capacity can be reserved in the transmission network. These will typically be solar parks, district heating plants, batteries, data centres, or industrial companies with very energy-intensive processes.

At least 3 months

Cerius cannot say when the situation will change.

- Until we have the necessary clarity about the capacity in Energinet's transmission network, we cannot answer when we can again enter into grid connection agreements with large customers, states Jens Fossar Madsen.

Cerius covers the whole of Lolland-Falster and most of Zealand outside the capital area, including South Zealand, Central and West Zealand, and large parts of North Zealand.

- We can inform you that none of the initial customers we have put on hold have requested supply on Lolland or Falster. Energinet has just announced that they are introducing a temporary pause for new connections for three months, and at Cerius-Radius, we are following this line. Therefore, we will not be entering into new grid connection agreements with large customers for the next three months,  managing director Jens Fossar Madsen.
