The Fehmarn Belt Region has the potential to become a hub for trade in Europe. This transformation will affect the region both on a large scale and locally. Future urban planners, architects, and engineers must prepare for these changes, and the best way to do so is through practical experience. Therefore, Roskilde University (RUC) and Technische Hochschule Lübeck are now working to create a comprehensive overview of internship opportunities on both sides of the Fehmarn Belt.

Increased visibility and overview
This initiative is part of the BELT Fehmarn Region Plan & Network Initiative, led by Roskilde University (RUC) in collaboration with Technische Hochschule Lübeck. The project aims to increase the visibility of the Fehmarn Belt Region among students through practical urban planning studies and a broader marketplace for internship opportunities across the region.

– The purpose of the internship list is to give students an overview of opportunities in the Fehmarn Belt Region. We want to highlight the diversity of companies operating here and help students gain a broader understanding of the job market. At the same time, it’s an opportunity for companies to be promoted among the bright minds of the future, says Astrid Laura Dam Jensen, a scientific assistant at RUC.

Potential to attract knowledge and talent
According to the BELT initiative, companies and organizations can use the internship list to attract new talent, acquire updated knowledge, increase their visibility in the region, and contribute to the growing economic integration across the Fehmarn Belt.

The internship opportunities are primarily aimed at graduate students, especially those enrolled in social sciences and technical programs such as Sustainable Transition, Urban & Regional Planning, Architecture, and Civil Engineering. The focus on these disciplines aligns with the government’s desire to integrate more internships into graduate programs, making it an opportune time for companies to get involved.

Covers the entire Fehmarn Belt region
– The list is not limited to companies in Region Zealand but extends across the entire Fehmarn Belt Region on both the Danish and German sides. Initially, it is targeted at students from our partner institutions, RUC and TH Lübeck. However, we expect the BELT platform to remain relevant even after the project’s conclusion and possibly attract students from other universities, says Astrid Laura Dam Jensen.

Wide range of companies and organizations
The list of potential internships will be available on the BELT project’s website, beltplatform.org. This list will include a wide range of companies and institutions—from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations, NGOs, and various public entities—on both the Danish and German sides of the Belt.

Companies interested in joining the internship catalog or wanting to learn more about the initiative can visit beltplatform.org for further information.
