“If you can’t beat them, join them” seems to be the path forward for Dry Ice Denmark. The small startup, based in Rødbyhavn, specializing in industrial cleaning with dry ice, has indeed found a strong partner.

Krebs has bought 70 percent
The Hamburg-based service provider, Krebs Unternehmensgruppe, operating in Denmark under the name Krebs Industriservice, has opened its wallet and acquired 70 percent of Dry Ice Denmark. This means that Dry Ice Denmark now extends its family with the approximately 400 employees of Krebs Unternehmensgruppe.

Opens doors
However, the partnership means much more than just additional attendees for the Christmas dinner for Dry Ice Denmark. It can open doors that were previously closed to the small Danish cleaning company:

– We were too small. I could see there was plenty of work, for example on the Fehmarn project, we could bid on, but getting through to the right decision-maker at FLC is very hard for a small company with four employees. Now we can, explains Thor Hundertmark, founder, director, and now co-owner of Dry Ice Denmark.

Most work in Germany
Krebs Industriservice is already a subcontractor to FLC, so there is a prospect of more work within a reasonable distance from the headquarters in Rødbyhavn. But further away, there’s also plenty to do:

– 80-90 percent of our tasks are in Germany. But we’ve also taken on tasks, for example, at Nestlé in Denmark, and there are also exciting things on the horizon in Nakskov, says Thor Hundertmark, who originally comes from Germany but has moved to Lolland with his company.

– We need to be big
The partnership with Krebs equips Dry Ice Denmark well for expansion, and this is also Thor Hundertmark’s ambition:

– Now we need to be big. We aim to be three or four times larger within the next two years. But I had not anticipated this. I thought it would pay for the house, and I could make a living from it, but I had not imagined this. So I am proud, concludes Thor Hundertmark.

Facts: Cleaning with dry ice

  • Dry ice, which is minus 90 degrees cold, is pulverized and blasted at high pressure onto the surface to be cleaned. This method ensures a thorough and effective cleaning.
  • In the process, neither water nor sand is used, which means that, for example, machine parts are not damaged by the treatment. This makes dry ice cleaning ideal for delicate and precise cleaning needs.
  • By using 300 kilograms of CO2 for cleaning, only 200 kilograms are emitted. This means that the process actually “cleanses” the atmosphere of CO2, making it a sustainable cleaning solution.
