How much municipalities earn from corporation tax

Guldborgsund Municipality receives more in corporation tax than Næstved Municipality, while Lolland Municipality sources a large portion of the money from outside. New figures provide a detailed picture of how corporation tax is distributed among the municipalities.

There are large differences in how much the municipalities in Lolland-Falster and South Zealand receive in corporation tax. New figures for the settlement in 2026, based on companies' earnings in 2023, show that Guldborgsund Municipality receives 69.9 million DKK, Næstved Municipality 56.9 million DKK, Lolland Municipality 44.8 million DKK, Faxe Municipality 34.3 million DKK, and Vordingborg Municipality 25.3 million DKK.

The corporation tax is not only retained in the municipality where the company is registered but is also distributed to the municipalities where the company has employees and activities. This is the so-called branch tax. Thus, the tax is practically equalised between the municipalities.

Highest corporate tax in Region Zealand

  1. Kalundborg Municipality: 416.0 million DKK
  2. Roskilde Municipality: 130.7 million DKK
  3. Køge Municipality: 95.8 million DKK
  4. Slagelse Municipality: 83.9 million DKK
  5. Guldborgsund Municipality: 69.9 million DKK

An example is Nordic Sugar, which has its headquarters in Copenhagen but production in Nakskov and Nykøbing. Therefore, part of the corporation tax ends up in Lolland and Guldborgsund Municipality, even though the company is formally based elsewhere.

Conversely, local companies can send part of the tax out of the municipality. Lollands Bank has its headquarters in Nakskov but activities in both Guldborgsund and Vordingborg Municipality. Therefore, part of the corporation tax is distributed away from Lolland Municipality.

In Lolland, 16.7 million DKK comes from companies registered in the municipality, while 22.9 million DKK comes in as branch tax for 2023 and 7.6 million DKK from previous years. Conversely, the municipality sends 2.4 million DKK to other municipalities.

Lowest corporate tax in Region Zealand

  1. Odsherred Municipality: 8.7 million DKK
  2. Lejre Municipality: 12.7 million DKK
  3. Stevns Municipality: 20.7 million DKK
  4. Solrød Municipality: 24.3 million DKK
  5. Vordingborg Municipality: 25.3 million DKK

In Guldborgsund, 48.1 million DKK comes from businesses with an address in the municipality, while 17.9 million DKK comes in as branch tax for 2023 and 5.8 million DKK from previous years. Conversely, the municipality sends 1.8 million DKK to other municipalities. Vordingborg receives 25.3 million DKK. Here, 19.6 million DKK comes from businesses with an address in the municipality, while 5.2 million DKK comes in as branch tax for 2023 and 2.9 million DKK from previous years. Conversely, the municipality sends 1.6 million DKK for 2023 and 0.8 million DKK for previous years.

Novo effect

Looking at the whole Region Zealand, the differences become even clearer.

Kalundborg is in a league of its own with 416.0 million DKK in corporation tax, largely driven by Novo Nordisk. Thus, the municipality is far above the others in the region.

Next is Roskilde with 130.7 million DKK and Køge with 95.8 million DKK. At the very bottom is Odsherred Municipality with 8.7 million DKK.
