The Femern Belt Development Foundation was with Business Lolland-Falster and Erhvervshus Sjælland at the Expo Real fair in Munich in southern Germany last week. The purpose of the visit was to attract German property investors, especially within transport and logistics, tourism and industry, to Lolland-Falster. And the upcoming tunnel between Lolland and Fehmarn is helping to sell tickets. This is what the director of Business Lolland-Falster says:
Fehmarn makes people listen
– There is much more responsiveness in Germany towards Lolland-Falster as an investment area after the construction has started. When we go out waving the flag for Lolland-Falster, Fehmarn gets people to listen, says Mads Stærk, director of the business association Business Lolland-Falster.
Stig Rømer Winther, director of the Femern Belt Development foundation, is also very satisfied with the fair visit:
– It went very well. There was a large attendance at the fair, and we saw clear interest in the investment potential concerning properties on both sides of the Fehmarn Belt, he says.
Familiarity must be improved
The Danish delegation did not have a stand at the fair this year, but they are working towards a joint stand with German partners at the fair next year. There is still work to be done in order to open the eyes of German investors to the Fehmarn region’s potential:
– The familiarity is not high. And this is one of the reasons why we participate. It is very important that we increase the level of familiarity in Germany, says Stig Rømer Winther from Femern Belt Development.
Mads Stærk from Business Lolland-Falster confirms that there is room for improvement in German property investors’ knowledge of Southern Denmark:
Perfect location
– After all, they don’t come running to us at such a fair. But those we are after have a clear interest. Lolland and Falster will become prominent logistics hubs when the tunnel is finished. Falster can then be reached within the driving rest time rules in relation to the Stockholm area, and Lolland is perfectly situated as a gateway between Hamburg and Copenhagen, says Mads Stærk from Business Lolland-Falster.
