A few years ago, Danhostel Maribo invested DKK 2.5 million in five mini-cabins to meet the demand from companies and professionals for overnight accommodation in the area.

And it has proven to be a good investment.

– The mini cabins are almost booked all the time at the moment, says Camilla Romme Hansen, hall manager at Maribo Hallerne, which runs the hostel.

Business every day – tourists at the weekend
In everyday life, it is primarily companies that book in, while at weekends the cabins are used by tourists, people visiting the area and people on training camps.

Many of the overnight business people are related to the Fehmarn project.

– Right now, quality consultants from Give Steel live here every week, and otherwise it is craft companies that work on derivative tasks from the Fehmarn project. We have both some who come regularly every or every other week, and some who book for shorter periods, says Camilla Romme Hansen.

Own kitchenette and bath
Each mini cabin has space for one or two guests and contains a sofa bed, tables and chairs, private bath and toilet, a small kitchenette and a covered terrace.

The mini cabins were ready in November 2021, and the investment in the five mini cabins came just one year after Danhostel Maribo opened with six large cabins with room for six guests each.

The large cabins are actually intended for tourists, but business people also live in the large cabins from time to time.

– It depends a bit on whether you come alone or there are several colleagues who want to stay in the same cabin, says Camilla Romme Hansen.

Greater flexibility
She cannot put a figure on how much the Fehmarn project affects Maribo Hallerne’s finances, but she does not hesitate to describe the mini-huts as a success.

– I would definitely say that the cabins have been a success. This has given us greater volume and greater flexibility. This means that we can rent out to the business world, and at the same time it gives us a larger amount of accommodation when we have to think about larger events in the hall and training camps and camp schools, explains the director of the hall.

Knowledge through networks
The mini cabins are not online, so they are rented out through direct contact on the spot.

So how do business people find you?

– They find us through various networks. We ourselves are involved in FB Suppliers and Business Lolland-Falster. We can see that it makes sense to join networks and be visible in relation to renting out the cabins and in relation to attracting events to the hall, where we have fairs, conferences and meeting activities, says Camilla Romme Hansen.

When the mini cabins are not online, according to the hall director, it is to have the flexibility to accommodate craftsmen who need overnight accommodation from day to day. Otherwise the cabins would be fully booked in advance.

– Often when the evening draws to a close, there is still someone in all the mini cabins, says Camilla Romme Hansen.

Guests at Danhostel Maribo also have the option to purchase breakfast and access to the fitness center or swimming pool.
