The temporary tunnel camp Adapteo is building in Rødbyhavn has achieved low-energy certification as the largest camp in Denmark. This is ensured by, among other things, solar panels and heat pumps.
The label “low-energy building” requires, according to the Building Regulations, among other things, that the pavilions only use just under 30 kW per square meter per year. It is complied with by using heat pumps with a high SCOP value and a solar cell system that is placed on the roof of the buildings. The SCOP value shows how efficient a heat pump is in delivering heat over a whole year.
Six weeks of work
The engineering company Fjerring Ingeniørre has been responsible for the calculations. The process has taken approximately six weeks, from the time they started collecting data until the calculations could be sent for approval by Lolland Municipality.
The local area will also benefit from the new, temporary low-energy construction, says Jens Schmidt, senior project manager of the low-energy camp at Adapteo:
Doesn’t have to dig down
– The local district heating plant is forced to supply district heating if the construction requires it – as it often does. But we have avoided that by installing solar cells and a heat pump. In our project, this means that the local district heating plant does not have to dig up half of the city and expand the district heating plant for a building that will most likely only stand for 10 years. It, therefore, does not burden the local community’s economy or infrastructure unnecessarily but instead contributes to growth and life for the city.
250 homes ready for April
Adapteo Denmark has rented a large area of Lalandia for 500 flexible and furnished homes for temporary accommodation of the incoming employees. The camp has 12,000 square meters of housing and communal facilities. If everything goes according to plan, half of the camp, corresponding to 250 homes, will be ready for operation as early as April 2023.
Greener construction in the future
Energy consumption in buildings accounts for 40% of the total energy consumption in Denmark according to figures from the Danish Energy Agency. The energy is primarily used for heating, ventilation and lighting. Making energy consumption in buildings more efficient therefore plays a decisive role in Denmark being able to achieve the political climate goals of becoming independent of fossil fuels by 2050.
Business in sustainability
– The sustainable way of thinking is already a large part of Adapteo’s overall strategy. It is both an expression of the market’s and our own wishes for the future. But it is also important for customers, says Dovile Zanauskiene, Sustainability Project Manager at Adapteo Denmark and continues:
– It is important for our customers to be sustainable, and in most projects, there is a green agenda in one way or another. At Adapteo, we try not only to follow the rules but also to be a few steps ahead all the time. Therefore, sustainability is incorporated into all aspects of our strategic planning, design and operations. Our ambition is to become one of the most sustainable companies in the industry and take the lead in our field, she concludes.
