GARBE Data Centers will build Denmark's largest data centre in Business Park Falster

Guldborgsund Municipality has sold 35 hectares of commercial land in Business Park Falster to German GARBE Data Centers. The agreement could trigger an investment of up to 20 billion kroner and make Nordfalster home to Denmark's largest data centre.

The sale, which was completed after a public tender process, is the largest land deal in the municipality's history. GARBE plans to establish an AI Data Center Campus with a total capacity of 350 megawatts - among the largest facilities in Europe.

800 jobs underway - 400 permanent positions

The project will be developed over a period of 10 to 15 years and will include between six and nine data centre units. During the construction phase, up to 800 people are expected to be employed, while around 400 permanent jobs will be created once the facility is completed.

According to Business Lolland-Falster, the project gives Lolland-Falster a new position on the digital world map.

- The data centre in Business Park Falster positions Lolland-Falster as a new, strong player in the data industry, says director Mikkel Wesselhoff.

Facts about the AI Data Centre project

• Investment: approx. 20 billion DKK

• Area: 35 hectares of commercial land in Business Park Falster, equivalent to about 49 football pitches

• Business Park Falster is located at exit 43 of the South Motorway near Nørre Alslev on North Falster

• Capacity: Expected 350 MW - making the centre one of the largest in Europe

• Construction period: 10-15 years with several phases

• Job creation: 300-400 permanent jobs and up to 800 jobs during the construction period, which spans 10-15 years

Green profile and international weight

GARBE Data Centers will construct the facility with a focus on sustainability. It will be powered by renewable energy, and the excess heat will be used in the district heating network. The company itself describes the project as a flagship project for sustainable digital infrastructure.

GARBE has over 60 years of experience in property development and 15 billion euros under management. The company develops hyperscale and AI data centres across Europe and is led by profiles with backgrounds from, among others, Amazon Web Services.

Mayor: A project on a national scale

Mayor Simon Hansen (S) calls the agreement a breakthrough for the municipality.

- It is a historic day for Guldborgsund. We are attracting an investment at a level we otherwise only see with national megaprojects, he says.

According to John Brædder (L), chairman of the municipality's business committee, the agreement shows that the municipality thinks big and realises visions. He also highlights the project's significance for infrastructure and the business climate.

Long in preparation

The plan for a large data centre has been underway for several years. Already in 2024, the municipality opened the local plan for the area to enable a data centre of up to 100,000 square metres. At that time, the mayor confirmed that several parties had shown interest - but without naming names.

With the GARBE agreement, it is now clear who is taking the first big step.

Conditional agreement - next phase underway

The purchase agreement is conditional. GARBE must conduct technical investigations and analyses in the area in the coming months before construction can begin.
