On November 19-20, 2024, prominent figures from both Denmark and Germany will meet at Engestofte Estate to discuss offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea, the Energy Island on Bornholm, and Power-to-X (PtX) initiatives. The conference is co-organized by the German-Danish Chamber of Commerce and Femern Belt Development. According to Andreas Wenzel, Director of the German-Danish Chamber of Commerce, holding this year’s conference on Lolland is a logical choice:

– The focus is on regional opportunities to expand renewable energy capacity and utilize new Danish and German port infrastructures in the Fehmarn Belt region. International and national experts will exchange views on developments in the Baltic Sea, he stated in an email.

The conference is part of the annual WINDFORCE series, previously held in countries like Germany, Estonia, Finland, Poland, and Sweden. It delves into the significance of offshore wind for the entire Baltic Sea region, serving as a platform for experience sharing and new project opportunities. With both regional and international perspectives, Danish and German experts will explore opportunities for renewable energy expansion and the utilization of new port infrastructures in the Fehmarn Belt region.

Focus on hydrogen and PtX
The conference program includes discussions on Power-to-X technologies and handling surplus renewable energy – areas where Denmark is already at the forefront. Plans are underway for a hydrogen pipeline extending through Jutland to Germany, and the conference will highlight progress on this project. This creates opportunities for cooperation among Baltic Sea nations. These collaborative possibilities will be explored in panel discussions among energy companies, port infrastructure specialists, and public authorities, who see the potential for extending partnerships and exchanging technological solutions.

Spotlight on the tunnel project
A key part of the conference program is an excursion to the Fehmarn project. Lolland’s municipal CEO, Thomas Knudsen, and Stig Rømer Winther, CEO of Femern Belt Development, will guide a tour to provide insights into the area’s development plans and its importance for green energy and industry. Participants will also receive a close-up presentation of the tunnel construction and visions for the future production facility, including the tunnel factory and working harbor in Rødbyhavn.

Catalyst for green cooperation
According to Markus Nölke, Managing Director of the organizing body WAB e.V., the conference is not just a forum for professional knowledge sharing but also a catalyst for stronger connections across the Baltic countries:

– This annual event underscores the growing importance of offshore wind and green energy for the entire Baltic Sea region, says Nölke. WINDFORCE’s mission is to connect experts and companies dedicated to the energy transition and to pave the way for future projects in the region.
