The industrial company Codan Medical in Rødbyhavn is closing production, and around 100 employees have been laid off.
The announcement was made to the employees at a joint meeting on Wednesday. The company expects to cease activities in Rødbyhavn on 1 November 2026.
The chairman of 3F Lolland, Bjarne Jensen, is sad that an old industrial company is now closing.
- It is sad, and we have engaged an education consultant so that people can get help to move on, says Bjarne Jensen.
- I am quite optimistic about that part. They are skilled people, so I think we will find new jobs for them.
Codan Medical produces disposable medical equipment for the healthcare sector and has had production in Rødbyhavn for many years. The factory has been one of the larger industrial companies in the area.
It is still unclear what lies behind the decision to close production. FemernBusiness is trying to get a comment from the company's management.
Previous round of layoffs
The company has previously been affected by cutbacks.
At the beginning of 2024, Codan Medical laid off 30 employees at the factory in Rødbyhavn. At that time, factory manager Peter Ring explained that the layoffs came after the loss of a large American customer, which accounted for a significant part of the production.
Codan Medical was previously owned by the late Stig Husted-Andersen, who also previously owned Ålholm Castle. Today, the company is owned by his three daughters Deirdre, Alexandra, and Stefanie Husted-Andersen.
