A couple of weeks ago, Erik Gade from Vendsyssel received a call from what appeared to be a construction and recruitment firm. Over the phone, he was told that he was being contacted based on his resume on the public job portal jobnet.dk, and that there might be a job available for him on the Fehmarn project as a dump truck driver.
The offer initially sounded interesting to Erik Gade:
– I am currently unemployed, but Fehmarn is far away when you live in Vendsyssel, so I talked it over with my children about it. They said that if I really wanted to, I should go for it. So I tried to call back for more information, but no one answered, Erik Gade explains.
Pay a deposit or buy a used caravan
But Sunday noon – after two weeks – they called back:
– He asked if I had thought it over and was interested. Because then we would have to drive over that evening. I just had to pay a deposit of 11,000 kroner for accommodation in a trailer camp. I said I couldn’t just pay 11,000 kroner on such short notice. A couple of hours later, he called again and said that I could also buy a used caravan for 2,000, which I could then live in,” Erik Gade says.
– Don’t think he was legitimate
In the meantime, he had gone to Aalborg to look up the company at the address. But it was just an ordinary house, and there was nothing to indicate that it was a contractor or recruitment firm.
– I don’t think he was legitimate. Nothing has happened to me, and I haven’t paid any money, he says.
FemernReport also tried to contact the number Erik Gade was called from. There was no answer. And a search on krak.dk reveals that in the last week there have been 77 searches for the number and a total of 1,868 searches. Half of the users who reported back described it as an “unserious business”.
Under bankruptcy proceedings
Over the phone, the company had introduced itself to Erik Gade as “Andersen Byg og Mandskab” from Aalborg. According to virk.dk, this company is currently under bankruptcy proceedings.
Erik Gade has now created a CV at Femern Agency, as he is still interested in a job on the Fehmarn project.
Check website and contact person
At FLC, they are not aware of either the procedure or Andersen Byg og Mandskab. Communication chief Eva Bunimowicz states in a written response to FemernReport, “If you are applying for a job at FLC, you can always make sure that the job posting is advertised on our website, where you can also follow the instructions for unsolicited applications. There will also be a contact person listed whom you can call if you have questions about a specific position.”
